In my study this week, Peter taught me a valuable lesson. On the eve of Good Friday, Peter's denial of our Lord was predicted. Jesus told him it would happen and Peter could not fathom that ever taking place. Yet, in every account of Jesus' arrest and trial (in each gospel), Peter's denial is told.
Something that was pointed out in my discussion group today is that when Peter's story is told, there is almost always a reference to his location. Peter followed at a distance, he lurked in the background, he was in the courtyard or warming himself by the fire. At times he was within sight of Jesus, others, maybe not. The point is that he was separated.
I am separated from you right now. What might come between us? I am separated from my kids right now (they are napping) what can come between us. The answer? Anything! If there is not a tight seal between you and another, anything or anyone can come between you.
The lesson? Stay close to your Father God! That is the safest place to be. The farther away you are, the more likely your own denial/sin will come between you.
