God Continues to Teach Me

You know those life lessons that you have to keep being reminded of over and over again? Things like, your mom really does know what she is talking about, you reap what you sow, if you wait too long to fill the gas tank you will get stranded, stuff like that.Well, here is the lesson I NEED to grasp because it is so important. I know I blog about this a lot but it is on my brain a lot and therefore, the cyber world gets to help me process :D isn't that neat-o?

I am continually amazed by my kids. I am amazed at what they learn, grasp and know. I forget that they know way more than they communicate. Charli is showing a real interest in addition and it is so great to see her adding things.Georgia's vocabulary grows in leaps and bounds every day.

What I need to remember is that they are indeed little sponges. They pick up so much. Here is what hit me over the head. This summer, we have tried to work on learning memory verses. I started late, we were consistent for 5 weeks and then I was really lax about it. We had stopped on the verse Psalm 139:14a which says, "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." We worked on it a couple of times but she didn't seem interested like before.

Today I decided to pick back up where we left off and learn the Psalms verse. I got my Bible out and the girls saw it. They came running. Georgia said "Bible? Bible? Bible?" BSF has been so good for my kids. It is something I will never regret doing. They have learned that reading the Bible is fun and exciting and also very important.

I asked Charli if she remembered her verses before we started:
Ephesians 5:1 "Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children." She nailed it!
Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth." She nailed it!
Colossians 3:20 "Children, obey your parents in everything for this pleases the Lord." She nailed it!

I said we were gonna work on a new verse. I started with Psalm 139 and was interrupted. "Mom, I already did that one!" I said ok and read it aloud. She recited it word for word. A verse that we had barely worked on and she remembered it.

Don't underestimate your kids. That is my lesson for the day. They can handle more than you think. Get used to it now to avoid helicopter parenting in the future. Fill them with good stuff, a good foundation, it will be with them always.

This week's verse: Deuteronomy 6:5 - You have to look it up!
