Oh Mexico

This post is long overdue. I started it and then saved it in drafts and it fell by the way side.

While on our annual family vacay in Cabo San Lucas, I had an exciting, unplanned, adventure. I was out at the pool with Charli all afternoon. I was chatting away with another mom. I started to get a headache and I could tell it was going to be a bad one so I decided to pack it up and head inside so I could lay down before heading out for dinner.

When I got to the room, my head was raging. Don gave me some Aleve...no help. Mark gave me a Vicoden...no help. I took a shower and put a wash cloth in my mouth so I could scream. It was awful...it was a migraine. I finally walked out into the living area and asked the family to get me help....This is where the adventure begins.

I was shaking and nauseated. I didn't want to be in light and I didn't want to move. So I sat on the steps of the tub facing the toilet. Mom and Mark came in periodically to check on me and update me as to the status of getting me help.

The resort sent for a doctor and two came to see me. After looking me over, the said my BP was low and that I was very dehydrated. The thought I needed to go to the ER. So, off we went, two docs, me and my mom. The doctor took me in his own car. It was weird.

Once I got to the hospital, they were able to get my pain under control and give me meds for nausea and then fluids. Once that all took place, I was feeling much better. I received excellent care. The place was spotless...if you know me, you know how picky I am about that stuff. It was very clean.

There were 2-3 docs giving me care at any time and a nurse that did not leave the room. That part was a little awkward. She just sat there.

The doctors all agreed that I should stay overnight. I was not having that. Mom and I decided to get the prescriptions and head back home.

The brought us the bill. No insurance accepted. They didn't remove my IV until we paid. That reminds me...the nurse literally had to DIG for a vein. That sucked! Anyway, the bill came...I didn't see it. The look on my mom's face made my stomach turn. She basically told them that it was an unacceptable bill, that she has been reading about the hospitals ripping gringos off and that if they didn't get it down to a reasonable amount, she was going to call the Attorney General. After a few tense moments and my mom not backing down (go ma!) they came back with another bill. It was 50% less! Gotta love Mexico. Off we went. I was fine the rest of the trip.

Once the pain and nausea was gone, I actually felt really good about my visit. The doctors were very caring and fun. Oh, did I mention they were all gorgeous. I told them I thought I was in a Hollywood hospital. This pic doesn't do them justice...you will just have to trust me.
This post also made me realize that I forgot to pay my mom back. Sorry Ma! I will get it taken care of.
